The acronym CTR (“Choose the Right”) emerged in the late 1960s and early 1970s as part of efforts within The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints to provide children with a simple, meaningful reminder to make positive choices. Leaders within the Primary organization sought a visible symbol that could reinforce faith and personal responsibility in everyday life. The roots of this powerful motto trace back to 1909 with the publication of the beloved hymn “Choose the Right.” Written by Joseph L. Townsend and Henry A. Tuckett, the hymn eventually inspired the creation of the CTR acronym and classic shield emblem used today.
